I became a very skeptical person ever since I lost my father, four years ago, but sometimes something happens to remind me that there is some magic in the world. That usually happens when the laws of probability are broken.
We have a second home, an apartment in Santos, which is currently being seriously renovated. Once a month we have to go down there to see how everything is going, and today was one of those days. Around the last time I was there, one month ago, I lost a little something - literally little - I was attached to. An Edelweiss brooch I bought the last time I was in Salzburg. I did not know where I had lost it, and honestly I did not believe it was in Santos. One day I noticed it was missing, and that was it.
So, today we go back there... As we were leaving the apartment and closing the door, I noticed something by a window, in the hallway outside the appartment. Incredibly, it was my Edelweiss brooch. Probably someone found it and put it there for some reason. From its position, it could have fallen five floors below, to the ground. Someone else could have picked it up and taken it away. But not, it stayed there, waiting for me for one whole month, even though I had no clue that it was where I had lost it.
The universe is funny, sometimes. Skeptical or not, from today on, that little metal Edelweiss will be my lucky charm, and I think I will carry it wherever I go .
